The Story Behind the Photograph

with 2 comments

Back in my newspaper days, I would drive around looking for feature photos. The photo below was shot 21 years ago.

I saw these two kids (which by the way are kin to me somehow) jumping on a trampoline. It was a good opportunity to get something a little different. I asked if I could join them and they were more than happy to see some adult give it a try. Despite the fact that at 28 I had never jumped on a trampoline, I couldn’t resist the opportunity.

We began bouncing together. I quickly got higher and higher and began shooting. I was concentrating on firing off images and getting as high as I could. I shot about 10 frames over several jumps. Finally, my inexperience got the best of me, and I landed several feet away from the side of the trampoline and was covered in snow. After they finished laughing, I thanked them for the opportunity and walked away with this photograph. It was my first and last time on a trampoline.
