Christmas Past

Christmas morning in 1959 certainly was a long time ago, but I have it to remember because of this photo. That’s my sister Donna with me.

If you look around the photo, you will see pots, pans, a refrigerator, a stove and a doll. That’s me playing with a doll. Look at the big smile on my sister’s face. There is a look of bewilderment on mine. I’ve always wondered it I received anything for Christmas. To be fair, there is a farm set there that includes some farm animals, and I guess that was mine. I must have been a bad boy that year.

There are also Christmas mornings I can remember without photos. One Christmas I got everything I wanted, and when I was finished unwrapping the presents my parents wheeled in a 13″ black and white TV on a stand. Having a TV for my bedroom was great. I loved watching Shock Theater Friday nights at midnight. I used that TV through college.

Then there was the Christmas Santa left me the G.I. Joe jeep with the signal light on a trailer. My dad was in communications in the Navy and taught me Morse Code on the light. Another Christmas, I got a G.I Joe helicopter which my sister broke a few days later so I dunked her doll’s head in the toilet.

One Christmas Donna and I talked my parents into crawling out of bed at 2:30 a.m. to open presents. One of my gifts was an electric racetrack. I convinced my dad to put it together and we sat on the floor and raced cars for several hours before the sun came up.

Christmas morning really became fun again after having kids. One Christmas I went out at 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve to find ‘The Beauty and the Beast” video because as I put my daughter to bed she said it was the only thing she wanted for Christmas. Blockbuster was the only place open and they had it.

The year AJ got his Xbox and the game Halo, we played until 9 p.m. that night and only took breaks for food and drink.

One Christmas, AJ and I gave Mattie two 30-gallon trash cans because she mentioned a few weeks before Christmas that we needed new ones on wheels. We didn’t have enough paper to wrap them, but we did put a big red bow on each one. To say the least, she loved them.

Merry Christmas.

Santa

with 3 comments

Santa came to my studio for photos last week. We’ve been tight since he gave me a G.I. Joe helicopter that year.

Here’s a couple from my studio. I know he wears a red suit and the tree has color lights on it, but for some reason I liked the first photo better in black and white. Yes, that’s me in the second photo. Strange how Santa and I look somewhat alike. If I grew a beard…nah.

Doug & Telisha Williams

I had a shoot with musicians Doug & Telisha Williams this week. They needed some PR photos for some upcoming events. If you have never heard their music check out their website and you can also buy their album Rope Around My Heart on iTunes. Just search for their name in iTunes. Contemporary Bluegrass is how iTunes defines the music.

Be sure to check out the last photo and look at the window. That photograph is one of the reasons I love photography. You never know what’s doing to happen that creates an unusual photo. The cat must have wanted to be part of the shoot.

Carlisle Band & Choir Concert

I shot the Carlisle band and choir concert tonight.

I was on the side of the stage for the band concert and as you can see in the last photo some of the band members were one the opposite side of the stage. That last photo was shot handheld at 1/5 second at about 300mm. Ya gotta love the built-in image stabilization of the Olympus E-3.

The Crucible

leave a comment »

I shot the Saturday night performance of The Crucible this afternoon. Actually, the Saturday night performance was Sunday afternoon because it began snowing on Saturday night about an hour before the performance, and it was postponed until today. These are photos from the show. The last photo was from the students getting ready for the performance that didn’t happen.

The photos were shot with a Nikon D700.

The Crucible – Today’s Dress Rehearsal

with one comment

pc040534

Today was the Carlisle Players last dress rehearsal before performing The Crucible Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. in the Marshall Fine Arts Building on the campus.

It’s a very serious play, but the last photo is of an unexpected light moment during the rehearsal.

The photos were shot with a Nikon D700 and an Olympus E-3.

The Crucible At Carlisle School

with 2 comments

The Carlisle Players will present The Crucible on Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 in the Walker Auditorium in the Marshall Fine Arts Building at the school.

I shot the dress rehearsal for one of the acts tonight. The students are doing a great job with it. I’ll also shoot the dress rehearsal tomorrow and the play on Saturday night. The photos were shot with a Nikon D700.
