It was senior night for Carlisle boy’s basketball last night. Good luck in the regional and state tournaments.

Swim Meet

leave a comment »

I drove to Bedford Saturday morning to shoot a swim meet.

Shooting a swim meet is a little out of the norm for me. In fact, I haven’t shot one in three years. I did several back in my newspaper days.

One of the problems you always have to consider is the fact that indoor pools are hot and humid. That means on a day like yesterday, which was 24 degrees when I arrived, your equipment fogs when entering the pool area.

This time I came up with a plan. I put my equipment in a zip up camera bag with lenses already attached to the cameras. I had a 66-mile drive ahead of me so I put the bag in the passenger floor board of the car. Since the car has dual temp control, I cranked the heat going into the passenger floorboard to 90 degrees for the hour and a half drive.

I walked into the pool area and one of the swimmers I needed to photograph was getting ready to dive in the pool. When I unzipped the bag, nothing fogged. I don’t know if the heat helped, but I like to think I came up with a good idea.

My Blog’s 1st Anniversary

with 3 comments

Today is the first anniversary of my first post on this blog. I have made 139 posts in the past 365 days.

The above photo has been the most viewed individual photo that I have posted on the blog in the past year. Yes the dog in the background is doing what he looks like he’s doing. I shot this photo at the kennel where we got our golden retriever Leo. Leo, however, is not in this photo. This photo is an indication of how hard it is to pick out a puppy from a litter. The photo was shot with an Olympus E-1.

Thanks to everyone who has visited the blog over the past year. Touring the blog you can get an idea of the work I do. Sometimes I like to tell stories. For whatever reason you stop by, I hope you will continue to do so in the future.

Mattie and I drove back from Staunton, Va. this weekend on U.S. 11 instead of I81. Just south of Natural Bridge, we saw FOAMHENGE. In the photo, you will see a green trash can on the right and a car pulling in as evidence that people actually visit the place on the hill.

Yikkkkkeeeees. Since I took this photo, it must mean I was sucked in too.

Driving by Natural Bridge brought back the memory of a childhood summer trip. We spent the night at the Natural Bridge Hotel. I’ll never forget the look on my Dad’s face when he realized I left my crayons in the back window of our 1964 baby blue, four-door Ford Falcon on a 90-degree day. Yikkkkeeees again. The back window deck looked like a rainbow.

Pumpkin House

This past weekend, Mattie and I stayed at the Pumpkin House with the supper club.

It’s not actually our supper club. We just get invited because her parents are members of the supper club.

One of the members of the supper club have a retired bed and breakfast just north of Staunton, Va.

These photos are from around the house late Saturday afternoon. They were shot with the Olympus E-3 and 12-60mm lens.
